18 July Cheltenham - Warwick - Hornsea

The weather has decided to come right. On arriving in the UK we were prepared for high summer. During our stay the weather has been extremely mild with (unless we were out to impress) jeans and tee shirts being the clothing of choice.
We have been so blessed with the wonderful hospitality we have received from everybody. Verena was no exception opening her home to us when she did not even know us. The great thing is that we have made some new friends to keep in touch with. Here are some of our parting photos. John is eating a rather large bowl of porridge, which is his daily breakfast of habit. Had to immortalize this.
Decided today on recommendation to visit Warwick Castle. When we arrived it appeared that the rest of Warwickshire came with us. It is a major picnic spot and place to bring the family especially now being the official beginning of their summer holidays. We were here for a few hours. On our arrival we were in the overflow carpark so had a leisurely 15-minute stroll to the castle. The photos speak for themselves with our generous selection. Highlights for us were the Trebuchet, a pretty menacing catapult that could fire allsorts up to 500 yards. We do remember a TV programme where a Rolls Royce was given the last rites on a Trebuchet. We did consider donating the Jag but a few things stopped us going through with it. 1. Getting back to London 2. Paying the 700-pound access for writing it off (not sure what explanation we could offer) and 3. Being terminated by Allan as I am sure he is rather fond of his car. In the end we let Buzz sit on it.
Another highlight was watching the Falconry. Well in this case they had an American Bald eagle going through the paces. Magnificent bird. We also took a tour through the castle and walked on the battlements. Great Great Grandfather frequented this castle on a regular basis and had his own room. Bill does wonder if the family lineage started here. . Back to Yorkshire and Hornsea tonight before giving the house a good clean and heading back to London tomorrow.
As an aside we took a detour to Nottingham to track down the Jerusalem Tavern. Mick, it is not in Nottingham but 100 miles away according to our GPS. Will try and find it on the way back..
