Seabourn Cruising the Hainan Strait 7th January

A cruisy day as we cross the Hainan Strait as we head toward Cai Lan and Hanoi. It was also great to orient ourselves with the ship and shipboard life and to experience the personal service that is so unique to Seabourn. We attended our first enrichment lecture conducted by Denise Heywood in the first of her series “Vietnam-Land of Ascending Dragon Part 1 or in layman’s terms exploring the culture and history of Vietnam. For a bit of a laugh following this we entered the team Trivia competition with our iconic team name “Kiwi Fruit” Surprisingly we won Part one of the challenge but…there are 3 sea days to go so watch this space. We also enjoyed a galley tour. All the meat, chicken and frozen goods are flown in from the US. It is very risky buying these goods from Asia as you don’t know where they have been. Incidentally all the lamb and venison is flown in from NZ.
This evening is our one and only official formal night where one dresses in your best bib and tucker. We were hosted at our table by Sarah from Sweden, who deals in future cruise sales. We feasted on Fois Gras and Maine Lobster. Our evening concluded with a piano recital from Classical Chinese Piano Virtuoso Tian Jiang. A big day tomorrow as we retire in readiness for an early morning wakeup call.
